New Year Tire Reset: Simple Post-Holiday Tire Check
New Year Tire Reset: Easy Post-Holiday Tire Check
Alam mo yung feeling after holidays? Balik trabaho, balik traffic, balik normal life. Pero bago mo i-full send yung January mo, quick question:
“Okay pa ba yung gulong ko after December?”
Kasi during the holidays, ang daming nangyayari sa gulong mo—long drive, puno ang sakay, may baggage, tapos minsan lubak-lubak pa yung road. Kahit hindi ka na-flat, possible na napagod yung tires mo. At sa totoo lang, tires are one of those things na hindi mo napapansin… until may problem na.
So here’s a simple New Year Tire Reset—basic checks you can do in around 10–15 minutes. No need maging expert. Para lang itong quick “health check” ng tires mo.
Why this tire reset matters
Your tires are the only part of your car that touches the road.
The 6-Step New Year Tire Reset Checklist
Step 1: Check Tire Pressure (PSI)
Do not guess. Measure. Even if your tires look fine, they can still be low on air.
What to do:
- Check PSI when tires are cold, ideally in the morning.
- Follow the recommended PSI on the sticker inside your driver door.
- Check all four tires, not just the “front two.”
Why it matters:
Low PSI can make your car feel heavy, reduce grip, and wear tires faster. Simple check, big impact.
Step 2: Check Tread Depth
Tread is your traction. If it’s worn out, especially on wet roads, your braking and control get worse.
What to do:
- Look at the grooves. If they look shallow, that’s a warning sign.
- Find the tread wear indicator (TWI), the small bars inside the grooves.
- If the tread is already close to the TWI, it’s time to plan a replacement.
Quick note:
If you’ve been sliding more in the rain, don’t ignore it. Baka pudpod na.
Step 3: Inspect the Sidewall
Sidewall damage is serious. This is not the part you want to “risk it.”
What to look for:
- Bulges or bumps
- Cracks
- Cuts
- Nails or screws
Why it matters:
A bulge can mean internal damage. If you hit a gutter while parking, this step is a must.
Step 4: Look for Uneven Wear
Uneven wear is a sign something is off.
What to do:
- Check if the inner edge is more worn than the outer edge, or vice versa.
- Compare left and right tires.
- If wear is uneven, you may need alignment or balancing.
Why it matters:
If you replace tires without fixing the cause, the new set can wear out fast too.
Step 5: Notice How the Car Feels While Driving
Your car can show tire problems through feel and sound.
Ask yourself:
- Do you feel vibration at 60–80 kph?
- Do you hear a humming noise that wasn’t there before?
- Does the steering feel shaky or “floating”?
Why it matters:
These can point to imbalance, uneven wear, or early tire damage.
Step 6: Check the Spare Tire and Tools
Many drivers forget the spare tire until it’s too late.
What to do:
- Check if your spare tire has enough air.
- Make sure the jack and tools are complete.
- Keep your early warning device ready.
Real talk:
You don’t want the “flat tire and flat spare” problem, especially in traffic.
When should you replace your tires?
Consider replacing if:
- near/at the wear indicators (TWI)
- may cracks, cuts, or bulges
- laging nababawasan ng hangin
- poor grip on wet roads
- ramdam mo na “iba na” yung handling
If unsure ka, normal yan. Tires can be confusing at first. Better to ask than guess.
